July 28 | The Culture of Sculpture
Inspired by Triennial artist Akio Takamori’s depictions of rural life from his youth in Japan, learn to create figurative sculpture using fireless ceramics you can make from home.
August 25 | Surreal Mixed-Media
Investigate the fantastic with artwork by Triennial artist Pedro Friedeberg, and then imagine your own mixed-media dreamscape in the CalModern studio.
September 29 | Narrative Painting
Discover how to bring a story to life through visual narrative, enlivened by the moving imagery of Triennial artist John Bankston.
October 27 | The Politics of Embroidery
Dive into the controversial work of Triennial artist Eko Nugroho and learn how utilize embroidery as a satirical message board.

Free Second Sundays are an ideal way for families to have fun with art together. This free arts festival includes hands-on art projects, live entertainment, story time, and gallery tours geared for all ages.
July 14 | Summer Fiesta
Join in sizzling summer fun with standout performances by Fanfaire Foundation Kids Play for Kids and unique family activities presented by the Girls and Boys Club.
August 11 | Tides of the Pacific
Inspired by current exhibition the California-Pacific Triennial, take a trip from coast to coast with community partner the Girl Scouts of Orange County and enjoy live music from Pacific Trio representing Hong Kong, Taiwan and Northern China.
September 8 | Grandparent’s Day Celebration
Bring the whole family for a day of creative fun. Enjoy back-to-school projects and special gift making for loved ones as we honor grandparents and commemorate the day with silhouette portraits of our kindred.
October 13 | Carnival
Celebrate Day of the Dead early with Carnival at CalModern. Enjoy live performances by Jukebox Radio and join the fun with mask making and more.
November 10 | Global Holiday
‘Tis the season for holiday cheer, with lively folk dance from Relampago del Cielo and personalized art projects perfect for gift giving.

|At every Free Second Sunday, OCMA selects one outstanding art project as our OCMA PROJECT OF THE MONTH!
This March, OCMA joined community partner Orange County Educational Arts Academy (OCEAA) in hosting a Festival of Colors. Complete with musical performances from Endeavor Dance Troupe and OCEAA students, families also enjoyed hands-on art making including Color Run, Painting Machines, Splatter Art, and more.
