Art of Dining 2008
ART OF DINING 2008
On June 7th, 2008 the Orange County Museum of Art’s Art of Dining, one of the areas most prominent social evenings and the premier event celebrating art and creativity, raised $450,000 to support exhibition and education programs for the museum. Chaired by Carmela Phillips with co-chairs Marsha Anderson and Joan Riach, the successful event, with more than 330 guests in attendance, brought out arts supporters and professionals, community and business leaders, as well as many young professionals who look to the museum for cutting edge cultural experiences. Held at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, the evening honored Pritzker prize-winning architect Thom Mayne and also served as the backdrop for an incredible announcement—plans for the Museum’s relocation to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts as well as the selection of Mayne as the architect for the new building.

Art of Dining 2008 received lead sponsorship from Louis Vuitton whose early and generous contribution has helped to achieve a high level of success for this event.

ART OF DINING 2008 PATRON PARTY
On May 9, 2008, the Orange County Museum of Art held a special patron party to recognize the generosity of top-level donors in support of the Museum’s annual fundraising gala,
Art of Dining.

More than 100 guests gathered at the Newport Coast home of Michelle and Paul Janavs on Pelican Point for this festive soiree. Hosts Michelle and Paul Janavs welcomed Orange County’s bevy of art aficionados including Art of Dining chair Carmela Phillips, vice-chair Marsha Anderson, OCMA director Dennis Szakacs and curator Elizabeth Armstrong, Inga and Mark Beder, Kelly and David Emmes, Moira and Fred Kamgar, Gianna and Demetrio Kerrison, Twyla & Charles Martin, Irene and Lucio Martino, Lilly and Paul Merage, and Jennifer and Anton Segerstom. Adding some flair to the event were Caroline Jones and Naomi Mansbach of Cartier, the evening’s sponsor, accompanied by two Cartier pages donning the jeweler’s signature gold-buttoned red suits. Guests were treated to private tours of the Janavs impressive collection of contemporary art including rare works by John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, and Jack Pierson.

In following with Art of Dining’s theme this year, Square Root Designs created cascading towers of green florals accented with hundreds of candles and tea lights. The evening’s menu was expertly catered by L.A.-based event planning company, Along Came Mary Productions, and consisted of grilled lamb with cilantro-pesto sauce, smoked salmon, cheesecake lollipops and chocolate “heaven” cakes. Live entertainment was provided by the duo of David Weaver and Roger Espinoza playing Spanish guitar on the veranda throughout the evening.

Set for June 7, 2008 at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, Art of Dining is Orange County’s premier event celebrating creativity and attracts over 300 guests annually. Art of Dining 2008 received lead sponsorship from Louis Vuitton whose early and generous contribution has helped to achieve a high level of success for this event.
