This large-scale image by New York-based photographer Katy Grannan is part of a recent series of portraits that she has been shooting in public parks. Working with subjects whom she meets only briefly, she creates images that reveal her sitters' fantasies of being a model while making us aware of the exposed, public, and perhaps dangerous nature of her outdoor locations. Grannan recently exhibited a number of works from this series in the 2004 Whitney Biennial, and this image of a subject named Carla was included in the Orange County Museum of Art's exhibition Girls' Night Out in the fall of 2003.
