Sidney has been involved with OCMA since its earliest days and an exhibition organized by the museum in 1992 featured works from the first 25 years of Gemini G.E.L and OCMA’s own collection includes important works by John Baldessari, Larry Bell, Jonathan Borofsky, Vija Celmins, Joe Goode, Edward and Nancy Kienholz, Bruce Nauman, Kenneth Price, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Ruscha and Richard Serra produced at Gemini G.E.L.

Art of Dining 2009 ULTRAMODERN
On June 5th, 2009, the Orange County Museum of Art celebrated its annual gala fundraiser, Art of Dining, at the Westin South Coast Plaza. Art of Dining is one of the areas most prominent social evenings and the premier event celebrating art and creativity and the event raised nearly $400,000 in support of exhibition and education programs for the museum. Co-chaired by Inga Beder and Irene Martino, the successful evening, with more than 300 guests in attendance, brought out arts supporters and professionals, community and business leaders, as well as many young professionals who look to the museum for cutting edge cultural experiences.

This year, Art of Dining honored celebrated visual theater artist Robert Wilson. His productions have decisively shaped the look of theater and opera since the 1960s. Through his signature use of light, his investigations into the structure of a simple movement, and the classical rigor of his scenic and furniture design, Wilson has continuously articulated the force and originality of his own vision. His close ties with leading artists, writers, and musicians continue to fascinate audiences worldwide.

The evening kicked off with a poolside reception at the Westin South Coast Plaza and continued with dinner and dancing on the Terrace Pavilion. The event also featured an extraordinary dining experience with courses created by An Catering by Crustacean, Beverly Hills; Azmin Ghahreman of Sapphire Grill, Laguna Beach; Florent and Amelia Marneau of Marché Moderne, Costa Mesa; David Myer of Pizzeria Ortica, Costa Mesa; Joachim Splichal of Patina Group, Los Angeles; and Hussain Zouhbi of Westin South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.

An exclusive addition to this year’s event was a special live auction with luxury travel packages provided by Private Trade Winds of Newport Beach. Packages included trips to Big Island, Hawaii; Jalisco, Mexico; and Aspen, Colorado. Proceeds from Art of Dining support OCMA’s exhibition and education programming.

After dinner, guests were treated to a special performance by Barcelona-based music duo, The Pinker Tones, celebrated for their eclectic mix of pop, funk, soul, bossa, break beat, swing, lounge, and psychedelia. At the end of the evening, guests took away special gift bags courtesy of Van Cleef & Arpels and Ketel One Vodka.
