Temporary Preparator

 

OCMA is seeking an Temporary Art Preparator to assist in museum preparatory duties. The Temporary Preparator will become familiar with and adhere to professional standards of collection management in the handling of artwork both in the galleries and in storage.

 

Responsibilities 

§  Installation and de-installation of exhibitions

§  Preparation of artwork for exhibition and/or shipment/storage

§  Installation of technology such as media players and monitors

§  Safe and efficient crating, packing and transportation of artwork

§  Efficiently and neatly painting gallery walls

§  Maintenance of workspaces, tools and environment

 

Qualifications 

§  Knowledge of art and art history

§  Minimum of two years of experience working with art objects.

§  Familiarity with presentation technology such as media players and digital programming display

§  Proficiency in carpentry, interior painting 

§  Preference will be given to candidates with a BA in Art, Art History or BFA and art handling experience in a museum or gallery setting

§  Must be able to work as part of a team and have good communication skills

§  A valid driver's license would be beneficial

PART-TIME MUSEUM SECURITY GUARD

This position is responsible for the security and safety of the Museum collections, the Museum building, and the Museum staff & visitors in terms of preventing theft & damage, securing the premises, and providing customer services to museum visitors. May also includes light maintenance duties.


Qualifications

  • Reliable & honest individual.
  • Strong interpersonal & customer service skills required
  • Art experience
  • Previous security experience and museum experience preferred.
  • Current California Guard Card a plus
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Be well groomed and professional in appearance
  • Ability to be friendly and personable with museum guests and visitors
