Visionaries Lecture Series | Spring Session 2017
The Visionaries Lecture Series—presented in three sessions each year—explores significant art, fashion, and design movements, while touching on the political, social, and economic forces that underscore the movements. The spring session considers the transition from Neo-Dada to Conceptual Art—from Robert Rauschenberg to Jasper Johns and Joseph Kosuth. Japanese Post War Art emerged from artists like the Gutai Group and Yoko Ono, and women's liberation influenced art and fashion in the age of disco. While photographers like Lee Friedlander and Bernd and Hilla Becher documented '70s everyday life, Postmodern architecture and Las Vegas hotels and casinos were marked by automotive-driven architecture.
