intern OCMA’s internships prepare the next generation for museum careers. Interns work alongside current professionals, while gaining valuable skills. They have the opportunity to assist with duties related to the museum, its exhibitions and programs. Internships are unpaid but can be completed for academic credit.

Must be available at least 2 days a week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:30am-5:00pm, as well as some flexible evening and weekend hours.  Internships vary by department and run a minimum of 10 weeks.  Individual schedules are based on department needs.

Education & Public Engagement 

Public Engagement encompasses all public programming and school and tour programs. Interns within this department will be working directly with docents and the public, aiding in preparation of in-gallery activities for students, planning of public programs, creating flyers, and research for future programming. Interns within the Public Engagement department will be asked to attend public programming that will occur outside of usual business hours. Previous experience is a plus, but not necessarily a prerequisite.




Marketing interns assist on projects that directly influence attendance goals and audience engagement. Marketing projects include but are not limited to market research, writing, social media, community outreach, marketing analytics, design, and editing.  Applicants must have strong writing and research skills, familiarity with social media platforms, and keen attention to detail. Experience with Adobe Suite and/or Final Cut Pro is a plus.




Development interns are an integral part of the fundraising team, supporting exhibitions and public programs at the Orange County Museum of Art. Interns engage with members and donors through events, as well as assist with fundraising communications, database maintenance, and various research projects. Interns will receive training in the basics of engaging the community to support an organization, donor communications and stewardship, prospect research, and events. 


Art + Curatorial

Art Division Collections’ and Curatorial interns research art objects, update collections metadata files and databases, and provide clerical assistance on exhibition projects. Applicants must have an interest and familiarity with art history and contemporary art, particularly Southern California and Pacific Rim artists.  Applicants must have strong research skills, familiarity with scanning, cropping, editing photos in Adobe Photoshop/InDesign or similar photo-editing software, visual acuity, attention to detail, gallery preparation and registrar experience, and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
