Morning at the Museum Home School Program

The Orange County Museum of Art’s first ever Home School Program, Morning at the Museum, was a smashing success. OCMA set aside special time, before opening hours, just for home school families. With over 225 participants, families were able to take part in a wide variety of interdisciplinary activities geared towards ages 5-18.

50 Years / 50 Artists Art Auction

The Orange County Museum of Art has updated the list of renowned artists whose works will be available at the upcoming Art Auction 2012: 50 Years / 50 Artists. Approximately 50 museum-quality works of art, selected by OCMA Director Dennis Szakacs and Adjunct Curator Karen Moss will be auctioned at the museum on February 11, 2012.

OCMA Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Fifty years ago, in October 1962, thirteen adventurist ladies opened the doors to an exciting new institution, the Pavilion Gallery. Later renamed the Newport Harbor Art Museum and subsequently, the Orange County Museum of Art, the museum was the first devoted to both modern and contemporary art in Southern California and today is one of the most ambitious, innovative, mid-size museums in the United States.

Student Night 2011

On Thursday, October 20, Student Night 2011 featured exhibiting artist Barbara Smith in conversation with UCI’s art historian Juli Carson, video screenings including the Bas Jan Ader documentary Here Is Always Somewhere Else, walkthroughs of our newest exhibitions State of Mind and Two Schools of Cool and more. Free food, drinks, and artist’s-choice music rounded out the night.
